The Complicated Lingo of Mold Removal Services

mold removal services may be a complicated thing

Mold removal service companies will call their services various things. It can be somewhat confusing to keep track of the verbiage used, but it is simpler than you may imagine. Here are a few different terms you may see when looking into mold removal services.

  1. Mold Removal: This may be sort of a misnomer, because mold removal services are not exactly about removing mold. You cannot remove mold entirely, because mold will always exist in some form in the home or building.
  2. Mold Remediation: Mold remediation means that mold problem is being remedied. This is the process of killing and encapsulating the mold. When people talk about mold removal, this is the process they are usually referring to. While nothing is wrong with calling it mold removal, mediation is the technical term within the industry.
  3. Mold Mitigation: Mold mitigation means the reduction of the pain or severity of the mold. While it can be used interchangeably with the above terms it usually refers more to the allergens and irritants that mold produces. As mentioned, mold can never be entirely removed, but the effects of mold can be mitigated; especially if that mold is hurting the integrity/health of the home.
  4. Mold Abatement: Abatement means the ending of something, so if the mold issue is remedied and mitigated then it can come to an end. This, much like the other words means the same thing, but is a different way to refer to a different aspect of the mold removal services.

While mold removal services may be a complicated thing, it really is not as intimidating as it sounds. They may use all 4 of these different words when referring to mold, but they all essentially mean the same thing.
