While pets and animals have very different medical needs, a lot of the basic biological principles still apply to animals. While a Doctor of Medicine and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine have different licenses, there is a lot of overlap in the medical equipment they use on their patients.
Stethoscope: Both animals and humans have hearts and lungs, so both doctors and veterinarians will use stethoscopes to check out the breathing and heart rate of their patients.
Scale: Scales are featured in both doctor’s and veterinarians’ offices to weigh their patients. The ones at a vet’s office are going to much larger, however, to accommodate animals on all fours while a human scale only needs to accommodate 2 human feet.
CT Scanner: CT scanners allow the doctor to receive a detailed image of the structures of someone’s insides, such as their organs, bones, and vessels. This is an important medical equipment to diagnose both human and animal patients and typically works similarly in both cases.
X-Ray Machine: In order to specifically see the bone structure of someone, an X-ray is used. Both vets and doctors will need to use X-rays to see any breaks or problems underneath the skin.
Respiratory Machine: Lungs can be a problem in any animal, so respiratory therapy may be needed to help either humans or animals breathe better, and respiratory therapy machines can help with that.
EKG Monitors: Tracking the vitals of a patient is important, no matter the species. An EKG machine will help keep track of a patient’s heart, and some heart-related vitals.
A doctor’s office probably does not need a vacuum for hair as a vet does, but the two offices share a lot of similarities in medical equipment. Many of these machines are shaped and sized differently for the different patients, whether animal or human, they all serve similar purposes in their vet/doctor’s office counterpart.
