DIY Mold Removal & Remediation You Can Try Out at Home

ways you can try DIY mold removal & remediation at home

Mold is that growth on damp and rotting matter that quickly makes it to homes and residential places where the conditions are favorable. They cause significant damage to surfaces and objects and render food inedible. The following are some of the ways you can try DIY mold removal & remediation at home:

  1. Borax

This readily available mineral is capable of not only killing mold but inhibiting it all together. To make a solution, combine a gallon of water and a cupful of borax, then use it to scrub mold off of surfaces. Do not rinse off. Instead, leave it to dry.

  1. Ammonia

Ammonia is only effective against mold on surfaces that are not porous, like glass. Wood, on the other hand, is not so lucky here.

A 1:1 solution of water and clear ammonia applied and let sit for some hours on the affected area should do the trick. Caution: ammonia should not be mixed with bleach.

  1. Bleach

Just like ammonia, bleach works best on non-porous surfaces. Bleach effectively obliterates mold along with their spores and sanitizes surfaces that are not porous, leaving them less susceptible to future mold attacks. Simply spray on a mix of bleach and water in the ratio of 1:10.

Mold removal & remediation is worth trying out for yourself home. There are various methods, but these are just a few.
