5 Basic Residential Plumbing Maintenance Things to Keep Up On

When owning a home, you may not often think about your plumbing systems. Toilets flush, sinks drain, and most people do not think about those things unless they stop working. While plumbing systems can be great, they do require maintenance to make sure they continue running well. Here are 5 basic residential plumbing maintenance things to do to make you are your plumbing breaks down less often.

  1. Winter Prep: If you do not do winter prep you can cause serious damage to your residential plumbing system. Even if something does not break that winter, it can cause strain and reduce the lifespan of your pipes, faucets, or drains.
  2. Watch Your Dishes: A garbage disposal can only take so much abuse before it starts to struggle. Do not put all food down the disposal and be what kinds of foods you do put down the disposal to prevent it from getting gummed up and needing help with the pipes.
  3. Careful What You Flush: Only flush things down the toilet which are explicitly meant to be flushed down the toilet. Do not flush trash or products and maybe be wary of things such as flushable wipes.
  4. Keep Up on Leaks: If you find a leak in your sink, shower, or anywhere make sure to fix it quickly. It may be a sign that something more sinister is wrong with the plumbing, it could cause damage, or it may end up just being a waste of water. Regardless, a cautious homeowner could fix it as soon as they found the leak.

Keeping up on residential plumbing can be time consuming, but it is always worth the effort. Make sure to do these basic things to make sure that your residential plumbing system is always working at its peak.
